Soulard
Blues Band In The Soulyard
{1995 | King Solomon Records}
The
Soulard Blues Band has been around for over
twenty-five years and produced nine recordings,
Soulyard is their fifth. Soulyard only has nine
tracks yet is a good combination of swing blues
with hints of jazz on a couple of songs. The
vocals dominate the songs, there is just enough
horn without overpowering or being too horny.
Not a bad CD, the guitar is great, wouldve
liked more
Songs:
1. You Upset Me Baby (B.B. King) good
vocal and blues guitar
2. Feel So Bad I liked the harmonica/sax
solo near the end of the song
3. Harlem Nocturne this is a mellow jazzy
instrumental piece featuring their horn player
Brian Casserly who also performs vocals on the
other songs
4. Mondo Elvis not sure what a Mondo
Elvis is but I liked this song a lot
5. Stumble an awesome instrumental version
Freddie Kings song with great guitar and harmonica
playing, this and Mondo Elvis are my two favorite
songs
6. Bad Whiskey good song, I liked the
singing and harmonica, this would be in my top
three
7. St. Louis Blues (W.C. Handy) nice
bluesy swing feel, the muted raspy trumpet was
right on
8. Murder Man another jazzy instrumental
piece with flavors of sax, blues guitar and
harmonica
9. Mr. Donut Blues crisp, blues guitar
late in the song
