Ron
Spencer & Jump Start - Livin’ Low
{2005 Blue Wave Records}
Ron
Spencer & Jump Start have been rocking the
east coast for over 15 years and have put together
a release that provides a swinging, jumpy 50’s
R & B style revue. This disc has been in
the works for over four years and includes work
from many talented musicians.
1. HAVE YOUR CAKE -soulful lead vocals
and horn section stood out
2. I AIN’T MAD AT YOU-upbeat but
I did not enjoy the lyrics
3. LIVIN’ LOW-title track gives
a slow shuffle and nice piano work
4. THAT’S WHAT LOVE WILL MAKE YOU DO–groovy
bass line and great key work again
5. CRAZY MIXED UP WORLD- nice sax work
but I couldn’t get into it
6. FANNIE BROWN- upbeat song with a jumpin’
sound
7. NOTHING TAKES THE PLACE OF YOU- slow
ballad with an oldies feel
8. CASTLE ROCK-upbeat instrumental with
a lot of horn
9. I DIDN’T KNOW-gritty vocals
and nice organ and guitar solo
10. DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M GONNA DO-
enjoyable keyboards again
11. SILVERTONE SWAMP- cool swinging blues
rock that ended at 2:20
This
is an enjoyable cd for a fan of jump and swing
or big band type blues. There are some very
talented musicians that perform on this disc.
I’m just not a fan of jump and swing blues
music. I give this disc 2.5 out of 5 on my STLBluesometer
rating. It just didn’t do much for me
but it might for you. Go check them out yourself
live or on
the web.
