Michael
Hill’s Blues Mob – Bloodlines
{1994 | Alligator
Records}
Bloodlines
is the debut album for MHBM. Guitar Player claims
that Michael Hill is the missing link between
Howlin’ Wolf and Living Colour. This CD
has 13 tracks (I like that – it really
bums me out to buy a CD with only nine or ten
songs on it) has masses of shredding guitar.
This Bronx born Blues Mob pays (or should I
say plays) homage to blues music's soulful past
yet is able to move it forward to the electric,
hard core playing of today with a Hendrix level
of intensity. MHBM gives us over 55 minutes
of good electric blues, with R&B'esque vocals.
The
Blues Mob are:
Michael Hill, Guitars and Vocals
Kevin Hill, Bass (Michaels Brother) –
I am sure their mother is proud of her boys!
Tony Lewis, Drums
Fred McFarlane, Keyboards
These
guys have played together for sometime, you
can hear how they mesh together and play as
a tight band versus a mob.
Songs
I liked: Can't Recall
A Time is mighty tasty, I liked the guitar
and piano accompaniment. Why
We Plays The Blues is a quick paced tune,
the organ solo was cool. Promises
You Can't Keep starts with a great electric
guitar solo, followed by that rhythmatic vocals
that are present throughout the whole CD. OK,
that's the just the first three songs –
all the songs continue with same vengeance.
