Two
years after this material was recorded, Kenny Wayne
Shepherd’s latest release finally landed on
the shelf in January. The sole purpose of this release
was to preserve the heritage of blues music and
document some blues legends of our time. Six of
the artists that performed on this release have
since passed on. Many other reviews and reviewers
have missed the whole purpose of this project and
have not given the producers and filmmakers of this
project the credit they also deserve. For me, this
would have been the ultimate road trip, traveling
for ten days and visiting with and playing with
local legends of the blues at every stop.
Kenny Wayne does an exceptional job of playing alongside
these musicians and not soaking up the spotlight.
I highly recommend watching the DVD first to fully
understand what transpired during these ten days
on the road, it really puts things into perspective
about the whole project. Highlights of the DVD include
visits in blues musicians homes (our beloved Henry
Townsend with special guest Honeyboy Edwards), concerts
with remaining members of Howlin’ Wolf’s
Band and The Muddy Waters Band, a performance with
B.B. King during his annual homecoming and an acoustic
jam with Buddy Flett at Leadbelly’s grave.
I give this package above and beyond a 5 out of
5 on my STLBluesometer. More information on “Ten
