Ray
Charles - O Genio - Live in Brazil 1963 (DVD)
{2004 | Rhino}
The
year was 1963, the date was September 22 (just
one day before his 33rd birdthday) Ray Charles
brought his band to Sao Paulo, Brazil, for a
show which was filmed for a television special.
It’s been forty-one years since this Brazilian
concert, which had never been shown in the United
States – until now.
Ray
Charles: O Genio - Live In Brazil presents these
performances and TV special just as it was originally
broadcasted, complete with Brazilian television
commercials. By-the-way, O-genio means the genius
in Portuguese.
You get a lot of songs here, eight of the songs
are repeated in the second show.
This DVD is in black and white. Nothing special,
for the most part just Ray, you get to see some
band and background singers. The quality of
the DVD is pretty good. You gotta really like
Ray Charles or like live shows to get into this
DVD. Personally, I prefer the portability of
a CD that can go with me in the car, to work,
jogging (although not very often), etc.
