Hocking – Give Jimi Some Love!
{2002}
Early
in 2005 Jimi took on the International Blues
Challenge in Memphis, in the Solo/Duo section.
The Summer of ’05 brought Jimi to the
US for a tour and he's working on a couple of
recording projects, including a new blues album.
Jimi resides down under in Australians Victorian
Coast, he is a prolific songwriter and performer.
“Give Jimi Some Love!” contains
nine original tunes and a Jimi makeover version
“No Particular Place To Go” a Chuck
Berry classic and T-Bone Walkers “Good
Boy”. This album also features the awesome
sounds of Jimi’s dad, Kevin Hocking, on
piano duties.
Tracks:
1. Everybody's Clown –
slow blues with some piano boogie and heck-of-a
well delivered guitar solo.
2. Skinny White Boy –
somewhat jazzy with Stray Cat like vocals.
3. No Particular Place To Go
– an up tempo to Chuck’s classic
swingin’ blues tune.
4. Blues At My House –
another jazzy guitar track.
5. Look At The Damage (Free
The Children) – an acoustic blues song.
6. Mr. Nobody – outstanding
vocals. Latin guitar at start.
7. Collar Up - delta-like traditional
acoustic number.
8. Credit Card Blues –
a fast paced rockabilly blues song.
9. Good Boy – powerful
electric blues and an excellent cover of T-Bones
song. I really liked this song.
10. Romance In Aisle 2 –
good song, hard to describe. Man he was singing
fast over the piano.
11. Boxing Gloves – Jimi
saved the best for last!
Well
I guess this proves it! Aussies can get down and
play the blues. One of the pleasures I get for
doing CD reviews for y’all is getting to
hear fresh new music that I probably would have
never had the opportunity to hear otherwise. This
is an example of that. I enjoyed the CD, it covers
several genres. Make sure you go see Jimi if he
comes to your town.
Ciao'
for now, peace.
