Niacin
- Live! In Tokyo (DVD)
{2005
| Eagle Rock Entertainment}
Niacin,
the power trio made up of bassist Billy Sheehan,
keyboardist John Novello, and drummer Dennis
Chambers - not to be confused with the vitamin
B3 under the same name, but easily interchangeable
with the Hammond B3 that Novello plays throughout
this concert.
Their
jazz fusion combines progressive rock and funky
instrumentals in a jam filled format recorded
from live concert at Tokyo’s Blue Note
in 1997 (previously released as Live: Blood,
Sweat & Beers). This
57-minute program captures the band live in
Tokyo, performing a 10-song set that includes:
1.
No Man's Land
2. Do A Little Dirty Work
3. I Miss You (Like I Miss The Sun)
4. One Less Worry
5. Pay Dirt
6. Klaghorn
7. Birdland
8. Niacin
9. You Keep me Hangin' On
10. Three Feet Back
This all
instrumental power jam DVD was entertaining.
Musically it was too jazzy for my liking, mechanically
these guys are masters and incredibly gifted
musicians. There was not a lot of flash or any
stage antics just three guys playin’ well
and having fun. Niacin has recorded four studio
albums and one live album since 1996.
Ciao’
for now, peace.
