Chris Thomas King – Red Mud SessionsChris Thomas King – Red Mud Sessions
21st Century Blues Records - 2005

The multi Grammy award winning musician and actor grew up as a child-prodigy guitarist learning the blues at the feet of some of the music’s masters at the Baton Rouge, Louisiana club Tabby’s Blues Box, owned by his father, Rockin’ Tabby Thomas. The “Red Mud Sessions” was a return to his delta blues roots.

The all-acoustic “Red Mud Sessions” is the album, which helped to gain the attention of the Coen brothers who was casting the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou?” You’ll hear that same sound in this CD of King originals.

Chris does it all with the notable exception on cuts 1, 3, & 7 where Darryl White helps out nicely on drums. The rest of the music you hear on this CD is Chris Thomas King

Cut 1 – Red Mud – Easy driftin’ Delta slide sound
Cut 2 – I It Ain’t One Thang It’s Two – Kick it up a notch but still solid Delta, nice pickin’
Cut 3 – Soon In The Morning - Soundin’ like “Memphis this rocks a little Good groove
Cut 4 – Come On In My Kitchen – This song is so true it’s dusty Good soul
Cut 5 – I’m On Fire – Good toe tapper
Cut 6 – Sinking Feeling – Slow and dirty 4 bar basic blues tune
Cut 7 – Alive – Blues rap??? Listen to this hip hop easy blues number!!!
Cut 8 – Dark Cloud – Settle the dust with this number Could be on the porch stayin’ cool
Cut 9 – Rambling On My Mind – Good little shuffle rhythm deal
Cut 10 – Wanna Die With A Smile On My Face – This is a very cool song Listen and grin
Cut 11 – Death Letter Blues – Heavy message but good groove
Cut 12 – Raining Angels – Nice gentle ballad Very cool

This is a very good CD with a diversity of styles from mostly one man. Much better than most singer acoustic albums. This guy gets a 4.7 on my STLBluesometer.
