Dave
Mulford - Repeat As Necessary
{Recorded 2004 at 12 Bar Studio in St. Louis, MO}
The
project includes tunes from Keb Mo', Taj Mahal,
Muddy Waters, Pat Matheney, and James Taylor --
also includes one of the most unique and heart-felt
versions of Amazing Grace.
1
– Frankie And Albert – Soundin’
very Mississippi and it’s good
2 – Dirty, Lowdown, And Bad – Earthy
and easy listening toe tappin’ blues
3 - Pony Boy – A good tune but a better demo
of some fine slide/pickin’ guitar work
4 – The Birds And The Bees – The influence
of Brazil (Joao Gilberto) in this fine guitar work
5 – Mean Old Man – Words a little like
Rupert Holmes, not really blues but a cool grove
6 – Slide Guitar Rag – We be Pickin’
and Grinnin’ on this fine instrumental guitar
cut
7 – You Can Love Yourself – Easy, clean
Delta sound
8 – Amazing Grace – Gotta hear this
to comprehend it’s great!!! Thanks Dave
This
is a good CD despite Dave’s downplaying the
“stripped down” approach maybe even
because of that approach it is clean and simple
and good. Dave was a guest performer at the recent
2006 STLBlues.net benefit at BB’s and he was
terrific and gave a virtual lesson in the slide/pickin’
guitar style that he has mastered. This CD is a
very good example of his versatility and his skills.
This is a solid 4.5 on the STLBluesometer.
