An
evening with Butch Wax and the Hollywoods
{7/23/05 | the Pageant}
Together
with Dr.’s Mark & Theresa Knight and
Big Dave, Mama and I enjoyed the evening of
St. Louis’ own Butch Wax and the Hollywoods.
The evening celebrated both their 20th anniversary
and the release of their newest CD “Let
The Good Times Roll” (see
review). The three hour show, two-set featured
thirty-five musicians playing rock, blues, R&B
and danceable classics from the 70’s.
There was a Johnnie Johnson tribute picture
show with debut of the song “I’m
Just Johnnie”. Gus Thornton, Tony T. and
Kenny Rice were there to participate. Fox 2’s
own musically talented weatherman, Glenn Zimmerman
led a couple of songs as did several members
of the bands’ past. Billy Peek ended the
show with high energy electric blues and an
excellent rendition of Johnnie B. Goode. Photo
Joe and Lady Di were taking pictures although
STLBlues’ own Big Dave was a photo demon,
snapping away like crazy. The Pageant was packed
with two or three hundred thousand party goers
all enjoying the great tunes (note: my numbers
may be off as I had a couple of beers and it’s
been hot out).
Visit
Butch’s cyber home at www.butchwax.net,
get their schedule and go seem em’ live
(Mama says its well worth it). In fact if I
want to hear the CD I’ll need to drive
Mama’s car, as she won’t share.
Ciao'
for now, peace.
