Billy
Peek – Tribute To A Poet
{2006 - Ida-Bess Records}
“Tribute
To A Poet” is Billy Peeks latest CD and pays
tribute to long-time friend and mentor, Chuck Berry.
Based on a friendship between Peek and Berry that
started nearly fifty years ago, Tribute To A Poet
reaches deep into Berry’s repertoire with
these twelve time-tested classics; appropriately
a tribute from a St. Louis guitar man to another
St. Louis guitar man.
For all you gear-heads,
Billy is playing a 57-61 Gibson 335 reissue on this
recording.
The
band is: Billy Peek on guitar and
vocals, Don Tieman on drums, Dave
Moreland on bass and Steve Grimes
on piano and organ. Special guest Diane
Randazzo plays tambourine and maracas on
tracks 3 and 6.
1. Roll Over Beethoven
2. Nadine
3. You Can’t Catch Me
4. Wee Wee Hours
5. Too Much Monkey Business
6. Maybellene
7. Carol
8. No Money Down
9. No Particular Place To Go
10. Sweet Little Sixteen
11. Johnny B. Goode
12. Bye Bye Johnny
They are great songs,
done really well! For the most part it’s a
rock CD with songs from the 50’s and 60’s.
While all are good, track 4 is my favorite remake
here. I dare you to just try and keep from dancing
in your seat, bobbin’ your head and/or tappin’
your feet.

the CD and catch Billy live around St. Lou, for

Back on November 15th, 2000 I was lucky enough to
see Chuck play at Blueberry Hill, Billy was in the
audience and was asked to sit in for a couple of
songs – man, it was a real thrill for me and
musical treat. Both Chuck and Billy perform at Blueberry
Hill.
Ciao’
for now, peace.
