Day
2 of Da Biscuit -
began with grey clouds that rapidly burned off to
blue skies and warm sun, as the crowd began to arise
and drift towards the fest. A stop in tent city
for a campfire jam session placed everyone in a
festive mood, ready for the days adventure. Michael
Burks is just one of hundreds that enjoy the
'tent city' experience.
Meanwhile, over at the main stage, the one-man band
of Richard Johnston began the days show, with his
cigar box guitar. Interesting act, with a bluesy
version of War Pigs, a Sabbath tune!
Immediately
afterwards, at the Houston Stackhouse acoustic stage,
Bill Abel continued the one man band theme. Another
fun aspect of this event is the encouragment of street
entertainers, and this year was no exception. The
Hiser brothers from Fairgrounds, Mo. were a keyboard/upright
bass combo, the youngest act at the ages of 15 &
16.
-- More highlights --
- 19th St. Red in from N'awlins, another one man band
experience, sharing some Jimmy Reed covers.
- Sid Selvidge - producer of the Beale Street Caravan
radio show - did some 'barefootin"
- Cheryl Arena, in from Boston by way of Dallas (another
street performer)
- Jessica V. and the Rthymatics at the Muzak stage,
a very tight band and soaring vocals
- Eddie Shaw, Howlin' Wolf alumni! First time to see
a triple neck guitar, played very well!
- Jimmy Thackery & the Cates Brothers w/ guest
Reba Russell. A combination of talent, a Blues 'supergroup'
that ended the night spectacularly!
