W.
C. Handy Award Winner Charlie
Musselwhite at Generations
"If
you had to map out a life for a fictional bluesman, you could
do far worse than to base it on Charlie Musselwhites career. Just
look at his credentials: Born in Mississippi. Grew up in Memphis. Spent
countless hours searching for, and listening to, street musicians and
legends such as Will Shade and Furry Lewis. Moved to Chicago in search
of a better job, and while there, began frequenting South Side taverns
to hear performers such as Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Little Walter
and more. Became a regular and began sitting in, sharing licks
with Walter Horton, Carey Bell and Junior Wells.
"Excerpt from Blues Revue"
Fast forward a few years, and you'd find Charlie bringing his harmonica
talents to a very appreciative crowd at Blueberry Hill. Charlie is always
exploring new musical styles, and demonstrated his interest in Cuban music,
integrating that unique Cuban sound into his Blues repertoire. And of
course, he has plenty of Blues power! Never miss a chance to catch this
legend, he's not in town often! |
