Curtis
Salgado plays BB's |
On
Thursday, July 14th I was able to catch a very
poignant set from Curtis Salgado and his fine
band from Portland Oregon. I have seen Curtis
perform before and to be honest, I feel he is
one of the best vocalists around. He also does
some amazing harmonica work that is right up there
with greats such as Rod Piazza (Mighty Flyers)
and Rick Estrin (Little Charlie and the Nightcats).
The house was pretty much packed when Curtis took
the stage and people were whooping and hollering
for more by the end of the first set. At this
point I regretfully had to leave to due to being
so tired from driving from Milwaukee but it was
well worth the trip. Curtis has one of the best
young guitarists in his band, Jacob Wolf, who
is just a monster with his instrument. Some of
the solos he did were right up there with my favorites.
New members of the band include drummer Mike Kassell
and bassist Tracy (didn't catch his last name,
sorry). All these fellas are one tight unit of
musical oblivion. And of course there is Brian
Ward on the keys that helped everything flow and
jam just like it should. You should definitely
try to catch this band whenever they come anywhere
close to your area; the fine musicianship is well
worth the price of admission. Curtis informed
me he is in process of putting together a new
album but is still heavily promoting his latest
release, "Strong Suspicion". He also
has more discs available, along with tons of useful
information on his website at www.curtissalgado.com
