QUINCY AREA BLUES FEST |
The 13th Annual Quincy Area Blues Fest is in full
swing, in spite of the hot weather. This event is
held each year in Washigton Park, a great setting
for a blues fest. Washington Park is the oldest park
in Quincy, and sits in the original town square. An
abundance of trees provides enough shade to help 'beat
the heat', and the incredible talent showcases enough
cool blues to make this fest a very enjoyable event!
This year was no exception, just take a look the 2006
lineup -
Blue Eyed Soul • Joanna Connor • Burnside
Exploration • The Stratocats • Ben Bumbry
and the Messengers • The Phillip Dale Durham
Band • Liz Mandville Greeson • Curtis
Salgado
Day 1 opened with the local band Blue Eyed
Soul, featuring Dee Dee on vocals. A very big brass
sound accompanied Dee as she delivered some Aretha
& Etta, and Blue Eyed Soul nailed some classic
covers - 'Wrap It Up', 'At Last', 'Chain of Fools',
and more!
Following Blue Eyed Soul to the stage was
Joanna Connor. Joanna's fame was launched from her
Chicago years, but she originally hails from Massachusetts.
She demonstrated her mastery of the Stratocaster,
paired with her multi-octave vocal range. Varying
her style from Blues to Rock to Funk, there was a
great crowd appeal!
Ending the evening was the Burnside Exploration!
DuWayne Burnside was originally scheduled to perform,
but was kept away by a family emergency. Apparantly
the Burnside talent lineage is very strong, as Burnside
Exploration demonstrated the talent runs very deep!
Okay, this report has to end, as Day 2 of
the fest is beginning, and so should our coverage.
