The
Old Webster Fest |
The streets of Old Webster make the setting for the
annual Old
Webster Jazz and Blues Festival, an event whose
popularity is always evident by the fans that fill
the streets for this fun event. This years focus was
in honor of the St. Louis Blues legend & Rock
and Roll Hall of Famer Johnnie Johnson.
A featured blues act early in the day was 16 year
old prodigy Marquise Knox. This talented performer
exhorted the crowds to join him, and a conga line
quickly formed to follow Marquise as he worked his
way through the crowd, singng and playing harp! Quite
a fun moment. And for variety, the local band Gumbohead
brought their N'awlins sound to all the dancers on
hand, as moving to that zydeco beat became irresistible!
The Johnnie Johnson tribute band closed out the evening,
featuring a stellar cast of players, including the
amazing vocal stylings of Kim Massie!
Mark your calendar now for the 2008 Old Webster Jazz
and Blues Festival, you'll be glad you did!
Special thanks to the staff at the OWJF, Dawn
DeBlaze, and of course the musicans and fans who keep
the music alive!
