The Soulard Mardi Gras

The 2010 Soulard Mardi Gras Grand Parade just happened! One of best Mardi Gras parades in the nation, this years parade theme was 'famous couples'.

Congratulations to the 2010 River City Casino Grand Parade winners.

1st Place - Mystic Knights of the Purple Haze
Theme: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

2nd Place - Riverbend Krewe of Mardi Krawlers
Theme: AC/DC

3rd Place - Red Rocker
Theme: Tarzan and Jane

4th Place - Rythmic Krewe of Belvakis
Theme: Thing 1 and Thing 2

5th place - Gateway Lawnchair Krewe
Theme: Thurston and Lovey Howell

6th place - Banana Bike Brigade
Theme: Barnum and Bailey

There are few events in St. Louis that compare to the two weeks of the Mardi Gras season. Countless thousands braved the cold and snow to celebrate this holiday known as Mardi Gras. Did you know that Mardi Gras is actually French for Fat Tuesday and is also called Shrove Tuesday in traditional English? This celebration happens before Ash Wednesday, and refers to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season – that’s why it’s Fat Tuesday. And it's going on still!
