It's always great to attend a fest where the spirit
of the music is so alive, and revered by the community.
The KCK
Street Blues Festival was an example every fest,
and every blues society could follow. 91 year old
Myra Taylor - now in her 76th year of show business
- was honored as 'Queen' of the festival. When you
see the photos below, you'll see what we mean by honored.
Basically the KCK crew, led by DaWayne Gilley, made
this event a celebration of those musicians still
living, with 5 birthday cakes on hand, and a memorial
of those departed. Included among those honored was
St. Louis' own Henry Townsend. Kudos to Dawayne, Cathy,
Judge, Joe, and the countless volunteers that pulled
this event off so well!
Mark
your calendars now for 2009, and start repeating
"Kansas City, Kansas City here I come".
You'll be glad you did, and tell the KCK Street
Blues Fest that STLBlues sent you! Enjoy our photo
