The
Blues City Deli turned 5 years old!
Owner Vinnie valenza began this venture
as a way to combine two of his loves, music and
food. With three of Vinnies sons working - Joe,
John and Vince Jr. - it's become a family affair,
and it's also clearly evident by the daily lunch
crowds and the Thursday and Saturday live music
gatherings that the Blues City Deli is a big hit
in this music town.
Already having expanded
once to accommodate those who can't get enough 'Taste
of the Blues', Vinnie decided a street fest was the
only way to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Blues
City Deli. The music on hand was some of St. Louis'
finest, with some special out-of-town guests joining
in.
The Blues weather window brought record crowds down
to the historic neighborhood of Benton Park to enjoy
the incredible music that Vinnie lined up - Rum
Drum Ramblers & Pokey
LaFarge, Miss
Jubilee and The Humdingers, Elliot
Sowell/Chris Ruest w/Sal Ruelas and Joe
Meyer, The
Funky Butt Brass Band, Big
Mike Aguirre and Rockin
Jake w/Sal Ruelas and Joe Meyer, and Los
Carnales featuring Felix
Reyes and Dave
Herrero.
Artist/ Historian Kevin
Belford was on hand signing his new book 'Devil
at the Confluence', which tells the untold story
of the profound connection between historical blues
artists and their ties to St. Louis.
If you've been to the Blues
City Deli, no further explanation needed. If not,
you'll just have to explore it for yourself! Stop
on by, and tell them STLBlues sent you!
