What
an incredible music town St. Louis is! Just leading
up to the Big Muddy brought Robert
Randolph to town. Also performing in town that
same evening were names like Magic
Slim over at the Beale
on Broadway, and Ronnie
Baker Brooks at the Shamrock. And that was just
the festival warmup! Once again a great Blues weather
window greeted festgoers on their way to the 2nd
day of the 2008 Big Muddy. The
lineup of great talent continued, with names like
Skeet
Rogers and the Inner City blues band, Los
Carnales, Leroy
Pierson, Alvin
Jett, Kim
Massie, Ron Edwards & David
Krull, David
Dee, Renee Smith, Boo
Boo Davis and more. And of course, there were
a few out of town bands joining the fun - Sonny
Rhodes, Ruthie
Foster, Michael
Burks and Betty
Lavette. All the blues you can handle, along
with a bit of reggae and soul, makes for a great
mix of sounds.
The Big Muddy has slimmed down in recent years,
as the economic realities of putting on such a large
event get more difficult each time. Kudos to John
May of BB's
Jazz, Blues and Soups for booking a great lineup
for 2008. John is also the long reigning president
of the St. Louis Blues Society, who were on hand
all weekend promoting the blues of St. Louis.
