This weekend showcased some of the finest Blues to
be found. STLBlues began the journey with the Bear
Creek Blues Festival, in Slater, MO. This event is
a community effort, spearheaded by Jill Murray and
the City of Slater. St. Louis was very well represented
by the sounds of Phat
noiZ, one of the finest blues bands out on the
fest circuit. Phat noiZ has a CD release party down
at BB's on July 28th, for 'Milk and Cookies', their
newest effort! And a tip of the hat for booking in
a New Orleans legend, Mr. Bryan Lee. Every New Orleans
musician needs all the support they can get, post
Katrina. We saw first-hand recently how devastated
the city still is!
The Bear Creek Blues Fest bands consisted of -
Fletcher’s One Man Classic Blues Band
– Keith Fletcher hails from Columbia, MO. and
has entertained blues fans on the street, at festivals,
out of his van, at any venue you can imagine. His
ability to play guitar and sing with his own pre recorded
music is truly a sight and sound to experience.
The
Blues Notions – Since 1987, they
have been Kansas City, Missouri’s pre-eminent
blues band. The Notion’s blend of traditional
and jump blues with their own originalmaterial creates
a well rounded show that swings, shouts and leaves
the crowd clamoring for more.
The
Salty Dawg (a/k/a Gary Coble) – Since
1997 Gary has been playing R&B in the Kansas
City, Missouri area. His fans and fellow musicians
nicknamed him “The Salty Dawg”. His
style ranges from a funky “can’t stay
in your seat” blues to a whole lotta soul
blues.
Alvin
Jett & the Phat Noiz Blues Band –
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Alvin Jett has
been entertaining audiences in the St. Louis area
for over twenty years. The Phat Noiz blues band
is his means for delivering to the audience his
brand of in-your-face, hard driving blues. They
represented MOBlues at the IBC challenge in Memphis
this past January.
Bryan
Lee – A player and singer of fierce
conviction and deep soul, Lee has been New Orleans,
Louisiana’s best kept secret for the past
two decades. With ten recordings and touring all
over North America and Europe, Lee’s down
home Cajun sound is definitely a force to be reckoned
with.
On
the road from the Bear Creek Fest led to the 15th
Annual Robller
Vineyard Blues and BBQ. Robert and Lois Mueller
make this fest one of the best, showcasing the best
of St. Louis Blues, and the best of Missouri Wine!
This Sunday featured.....Phat
noiZ!
The last stop of this whirlwind of Missouri Blues
ends at Oak Knoll park, for the Bottoms
Up Blues Gang, and the soulful, sultry vocals
of Kari Liston. Kari even had the BUBG 'dancers-in-training'
on the scene!
A
World Class blues tour, all within Missouri!!
