I
ran into St. Louis's own harp player Keith Doder
at the gig. It was a fun time. I had never seen
these two fine blues acts before.
I caught the very end of Ana's show and boy, she
was smoking! Lots of guitar driven deep blues
sounds.
Seemed like a nice lady and the crowd was on it's
feet at the end of her performance.
Within five years of leaving her native Yugoslavia,
the 26-year-old singer/guitarist has played major
European music festivals like Peer, Bishopstock
and Notodden. She has shared stages with Bernard
Allison, Kenny Neal and Michael Hill and recorded
with hitmaker Jim Gaines. Perhaps most impressive
of all is her W.C. Handy Blues Award nomination
for Best New Artist of 2003 - a rare honor for
a European blues artist.
As
far as Michael Hill goes--this guy is nothing
but talent! Straight outta New York with a lot
of tasty blues sounds. Did a nice mix of Muddy,
Hendrix, Clapton, and some unique original blues
tunes! I was pleasantly surprised at the talent
and had a nice evening!
Over
the years Michael has been priviledged to perform
or record with Little Richard, Carla Thomas, Harry
Belafonte, Archie Bell and B.B. King, and has
jammed with numerous blues heros, friends and
colleagues, including B.B. King, Buddy Guy and
Luther Allison.
