Kelley Hunt tickles the Ivories at Mississippi Nights
   By Shannon

The Kelley Hunt bandOn Thursday, February 19th I caught some of Kelley Hunt's show at Mississippi Nights. Kelley is from Kansas City and is making quite the boogie-woogie blues piano reputation for herself throughout the US. Some of her major influences include Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, and St. Louis's' own Johnnie Johnson. She got the itch to play music while growing up and hearing her mother do a live weekly radio show in Kansas City. Kelley was also greatly influenced by her first piano teacher, Mary Burke Norton, whom she first took lessons from at the early age of ten.

Her passion for the music is easily recognized in her tenacious playing style and commanding lyrics. Kelley possesses a stage presence that makes people take note. She and her band are into their entertainment and seem to enjoy making the audience part of the show. There are currently two albums available from Kelley and a third one is on the way scheduled for release in May.

The Kelley Hunt bandMississippi Nights is a huge venue and even though there were only about 45 people in the place, Kelley and her band played so fantastically that they could have been in a huge coliseum. I will look forward to getting the opportunity to see her play again in the future. You can learn more about Kelley Hunt and her band at www.kelleyhunt.com.

Editors note: Only 45 people!! C'mon St. Louis, you have to catch this artist her next St. Louis visit, you won't regret it!
