Just
an hour South of Memphis lies the Blues Fest that sets the standard,
informally known as "Da Biscuit". Maybe it's the knowledge
that this is the land where the Blues began, the Blues history
of the sleepy towns of Clarksdale, Ms. and Helena, Ak., the
cotton fields along the highway, or the variety of BBQ vendors
that surround the deep-fried twinkie stand. Whatever the reasons,
this fest remains one of the favorite STLBlues fests to be found
anywhere.
Think of a county fair based upon the Blues, and you'll have
an idea what to expect from this world-class music event. Day
1 was the rainy day of fest, no matter to the music fan drawn
to this event. Ponchos and umbrellas were the order of the day,
as there's very little that deters the veteran fest warrior.
The weather turned beautiful all the way through to Saturday
evening and Magic Slim, when a short mist cooled things down,
accompanied by Magic's version of 'Feels like rain'. We give
the King Biscuit a 5 star STLBlues rating - a 'don't miss' Blues
event! Here's our photo gallery of the 2003 King Biscuit Blues
Festival - we hope you enjoy!
