Baby
Blues Showcase - our picture gallery!
St.
Louis is drenched in a rich tradition of Blues Music. The likes of Albert
King, Roosevelt Sykes, Tommy Bankhead,
James Crutchfield, Peetie Wheatstraw,
and Lonnie Johnson have all come from the breeding grounds of St. Louis.
While
older musicians like Henry Townsend,
Bennie Smith, Boo
Boo Davis, Johnnie Johnson, and
Arthur Williams currently lead the
large group continuing the tradition of St. Louis Blues there
are fewer and fewer young musicians even considering playing blues.
The
goal of the 1st Annual Baby Blues Showcase was to feature the small
group of young St. Louisians playing blues. Brian Curran, one of St.
Louis youngest fingerstyle guitarists, hosted and performed at
this years Showcase which featured: Rob Garland & the Blue Monks,
The Bottoms Up Blues Gang, Goodnight Irene, The Kevin Leman Group, Matt
Watson and many special guests.

On Dec. 1st,
2002, it was the pleasure of STLBlues to be witness to a great tradition
down at BB's, with the new blood of the Blues continuing on with the rich
heritage of St. Louis Blues. The Baby Blues showcase featured some of
St. Louis finest, with the elder being 26 years old! Over $500 was raised
for the Blues Fund, a St. Louis Blues Society charity for musicians. The
St. Louis Blues Society is one of the few St. Louis organizations actively
promoting and preserving St. Louis Blues. The Societys Mission Fund
raises money for musicians who have fallen ill, are unable to work and
cant keep up with their bills.
Here's just a sample, get out and support these local musicians every
chance you get!
