Rob
Garland
Rob
Garland moved to St Louis from Canterbury,
England, in November 1999. Having played many genres of
music, St Louis was most definitely the place to
focus on his love affair with the Blues. Musical influences
range from Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, George Benson and
Miles Davis through Jimi Hendrix to the King's of the
Blues, namely Albert, BB and Freddie.
Rob started The Blue Monks with the premise of playing original
music and blues standards, whilst combining elements of funk,
r'n'b and jazz. Since forming in 2000, the Monks have performed
all over town, at venues including The Broadway Oyster Bar, Hammerstones,
Sqwires, The Famous Bar, The Great Grizzly Bear, Generations and
The Ritz Carlton.
The
2002 lineup of the band includes
Byron James (BJ) -Bass
Tobin Hall- Drums
BJ
is a veteran on the Blues Scene and has played with St Louis
artists such as Oliver Sain, Big Daddy, Patti & The Hitmen
and Rich McDonough. Tobin has played all over the St Louis original
and cover scenes.
For
many shows the Monks are complimented with guest Saxophone player
Frank Bauer, who also adds vocal harmony to the lineup.
Every
Monday, Rob sits in with The Soulard Blues Band, at The Broadway
Oyster Bar jam and gets the opportunity to play with his favourite
guitar player, John Mondin. Rob is also at Mike & Mins every
