The Beat Daddy’s – Five Moons

When this CD came the following note was attached “You have the opportunity to discover one of America’s great blues bands, The Beat Daddys. Just put the CD we recently sent you (Five Moons) in your CD player and you will soon be hearing some of the finest new blues-rock currently in the marketplace today.” Bold statements, but I appreciate their go-get-it-ness and gave it a spin.

Where Is She is a classic blues-rocker with lead guitarist Britt Meacham showing off the electric slide playing. Legend has is that Britt learned from Duane Allman when Britt was a youngster hanging around the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studios. Larry Grisham sings Pale White Circle with a Stevie Ray Vaughn-like soul to it. Bad Streak has an acoustic Bob Seger flair to it. Where you might hear some Lynyrd Skynyrd influence is on the acoustic-building-to-electric song, Lonely Road.

The songs are:
Pale White Circle
Common Ground
Been There, Liked That
Bad Streak
Big Thighs
She Goes Down
Everybody Needs Some
Call Me Back
Lonely Road
Voodoo Satin Dolls
Five Moons
Where Is She

The Beat Daddys wrote and performed for all 12 songs on this CD, which is their fifth. The songs were pretty good, good groove, great guitar playing. Barring a couple of songs with lyrics that were borderline weird to bad, these guys sounded pretty good. I’d listen to it again.

Love and peace til next time.
