Budweiser Illinois Blues Festival
By Big Dave
9-5-09

Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne
We're here celebrating the 21st anniversary of the Budweiser Illinois Blues Festival. Lots of great sounds, coupled with great weather in a scenic vista, can never go wrong. A special highlight of the evening was piano king Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne being backed by the St. Louis talent trio of Rich McDonough (guitar), Sharon Foehner (bass), and Joe Pastor (drums). Other highlights included Brian Lee and his New Orleans sound, Chris Cain delivering his scorching guitar display, and Janiva Magness showing how she earned the '2009 BB King Entertainer Of The Year' award. Other great acts included Kelley Richey - think SRV meets Janis Joplin - and the amazing 14 year old guitar phenom Matthew Curry.

Rated a '5' on the STLBluesometer, and considered one of the top blues festivals to be found, the 21st annual Budweiser Blues Festival features two days of internationally known Blues artists and is produced by Jay Goldberg Events & Entertainment, www.jaytv.com, with proceeds going to the Illinois Blues Coalition.
The Illinois Blues Coalition supports Blues Societies, Blues Music Entertainers and Blues Music Education by offering grants and scholarships to help fund projects which preserve and promote the history and future of blues music. The objective of the Illinois Blues Coalition is to promote the art form of blues-related music by performance, by interpretation, by preservation and by enhancement of appreciation through knowledge and education.

A popular addition to this festival is the “Blues Lessons” featuring musician workshops and history of the blues educational seminars. Peoria has a long tradition and has always been a major influence in blues music. It began with the days when the blues masters would travel from Chicago, on the Illinois River to St. Louis, and then on to New Orleans. Peoria was, and still is, the place to stop! Even the blues men and women knew the famous cliché, “Will It Play In Peoria?”

The setting is the beautiful RiverFront Park of Peoria, Illinois - a great festival venue!
Produced by Jay Goldberg Events & Entertainment in conjunction with the Illinois Blues Coalition
