 STLBlues 3rd Annual Concert

The 2005 STLBlues concert to benefit cancer research was a huge success. Heartfelt thanks goes out to the fans, musicians and all who helped make this happen. Over $2,000 was raised for the Siteman Cancer Center!

  3:00 - 3:20     Joe Miller

Joe Miller Raised in Southern Illinois and now residing in the “Gateway to the West”, this singer, songwriter and recent recording artist loves music, and finds a way to enjoy it anytime he can.

As a third generation musician, he carries on the family tradition of storytelling and musical poetry with style, soul and allot of heart.

Singing since the age of five, and now writing and recording his own combination of roots, blues, folk and original musical creations, this is a man eager to share his writings, recordings and talents with all of you.

The Bottoms Up Blues Gang The Bottoms Up Blues Gang is St. Louis' Acoustic Blues Trio featuring vocalist Kari Liston, guitarist Jeremy Segel-Moss and a gang of outstanding St. Louis musicians. The Bottoms Up Blues Gang play a unique blend of originals and covers in the styles of Delta Blues, R & B, Soul, Jazz, and Blues influenced Rock & Roll. Major influences include a wide range of artists, including Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith, Jimmy Reed, Louie Jordan, Ani DiFranco, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Dixon and many more. The BUBG are also heavily influenced by local artists such as; Bennie Smith, Sharon Foehner, Brian Curran, Matt Murdick, Eric McSpadden and the real sounds of St. Louis music that seem to ooze out of every corner bar in the City.


  4:50 - 5:30     Melissa Neels Band

Melissa Neels Band Some highlights of the Melissa Neels band in 2003 include opening for Chuck Berry at Blueberry Hill, performing at the St. Louis Big Muddy blues festival - their third appearance, playing the Sparta blues festival in Sparta IL, featuring Little Milton, performing on Channel 2 Fox morning show twice, playing in the second annual Baby Blues Showcase at BB's Jazz, Blues and Soups, playing the STLBlues.net benefits, and performing on the Becky Thatcher featuring the Blues Cruise.

The band members of the Melissa Neels band consists of Melissa Neels on vocals, lead guitar and rhythm guitar, Tom May on drums, Matt Mc Cauley on keyboards and Ted May on bass guitar.

  5:35 - 6:15     RX Blues Band

RX Blues Band The RX Blues (from St. Louis) was founded In 1992 by Surgeon/Musician Jose Diaz. The band is currently the musical vessel for original music in the Blues/R&B genre for Jose Diaz.
The band currently has 4 CDs out and is currently working on a live CD. Their debut CD was released on the independent label "Kode Blue Records" and was titled "Rainy Days."

The title song from that CD was included in the 1997 Spotlight Musical Showcase compilation CD. Additionally, the RX Blues appeared at the 1999 St. Louis Blues Festival and has opened for many National Acts such as: Chuck Berry, Koko Taylor, Buddy Miles, Tommy Castro, Little Charlie and the Nightcats, Tab Benoit, Jim Thackery and the Drivers, James Solberg, Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, and Long John Hunter.


  6:20 – 7:05     Rich McDonough band

Rich McDonough band
Originating in St. Louis, Missouri, the Rich McDonough Band creates a high energy blues sound including music from the blues greats along with original compositions. During their tenure as musicians, members of the band have been playing in club venues and festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe for over 20 years.

The band:

Rich McDonough – guitar/background vocals
M. Les Moore – guitar/lead vocals
Sharon Foehner – bass/vocals
Joe Pastor – drums


  7:10 - 8:00    Johnnie Johnson Band

Johnnie Johnson So much has been said about Johnnie Johnson, by so many artists. A short list of the musicians he's performed with over the years includes Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Bonnie Raitt, Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf, Albert Collins, Johnny Lee Hooker, Little Milton, Albert King, Little Walter, Memphis Slim, Charlie Musselwhite, the late Jimmy Rogers, the late Roy Rogers and of course, Chuck Berry. Johnnie has his own website, and was also inducted into the Sideman category of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Johnny Lee Hooker, Dick Clark, Little Richard and Bo Diddley are among those who have lent their names to the effort. The co-chairman of the Hall of Fame (and also the co-chairman of Atlantic Records) issued a statement calling Johnson "undoubtedly the best blues pianist in the world today."


  8:10 - 9:00     Billy Peek

Billy Peek For nearly 30 years Billy Peek has rocked, rolled and duck-walked his way through the clubs and lounges of St. Louis and East St. Louis.

Billy recorded 4 albums with Rod Stewart, all albums went platinum, which means that Billy's guitar work has been heard by millions of people all over the world. And speaking of the world, Billy has done 3 world tours with Rod Stewart and was a member of his band for over 6 years. Billy has always been known as Chuck Berry's protege, especially in the St. Louis area. Billy had the priviledge of doing two European tours as well as touring the United States and Canada with his mentor Chuck Berry. When he asks the question "Can a white boy play the Blues?", you'll answer a resounding "YES". Billy can be found around town every weekend showcasing his guitar ability to his loyal following of local fans.


  9:25 - 10:10     Kim Massie

Kim Massie Kim draws her audiences to her versatile web of Blues, R & B, Jazz and Gospel. Singing since age two on her Momma's knee to the church choirs, clubs and concert halls, Kim calls to your sweet, soulful and sassy sense.
Kim has performed with the Legends-Oliver Sain, Mae Wheeler, Johnie Johnson, Jeannie Trevor, Bennie Smith and JR Reed. She has shared the stage with some of the best artists including Charles Glenn, Rich McDonough, Sharon Foehner, Tom Maloney and Renee Smith.

Kim's' Musical' debut in '03 was her "It Ain't Nothing But the Blues", which garnered a Woody Award nomination, followed by a repeat run at the Kansas City Rep.


 10:15 - 11:00     Phat noiZ

Alvin Jett The Phat noiZ Blues Band is Alvin Jett's means for delivering to the audience his brand of in-your-face, hard driving blues. The band performs it's own unique style of original music and blues, R&B and rock standards that are designed to get the blood pumping and the body moving. Currently operating as a four-piece, the Phat noiZ Blues Band consists of Alvin Jett on guitar, Frank Bauer on saxophone, Jeremy West on drums and Matt Davis on bass.
A native of East St. Louis, Alvin Jett has been entertaining for audiences throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area for over twenty years.
