At a time when some of
the legendary blues clubs of Soulard have vanished -
Mike and Min's, a blues landmark, recently became a
Mexican restaurant - it's really exciting to see a new
music venue open its doors. The Lucas Schoolhouse, brainchild
of Dan Jameson of Lucas
Events, held it's gala grand opening party recently
with the sounds of Bennie Smith, and a newcomer on the
local Blues scene, 15 year old Marquise Knox.
The Lucas Schoolhouse is a newly
restored 19th century Soulard schoolhouse, with state-of-the
art stage, sound and lighting, also with a huge projection
screen downstairs so guests can watch and listen
to the band upstairs. Please
welcome the Lucas Schoolhouse - a non smoking facility
- to the Blues venues of St. Louis
STLBlues recently attended
the Great Lakes Blues Society Summit, a 'brainstorming'
round table of Blues music promoters. Among those attending
was the Buffalo, NY Blues Society, with over 800 members,
The American Music Research Foundation, and Ted Boomer,
winner of the 2006 KBA 'Promoter of the Year'. if you're
trying to increase your Blues Society membership, buy
talent as part of a Blues Society group, or just learn
the business of blues promotion to help your cause,
this is the event! Hosted by Jr. and Sugar of Big
City Rhythm and Blues magazine, the summit naturally
includes the best of Canadian and Detroit Blues.
