Rob Stone, Travis Haddix and other special guests. Earwig artists
will also be spotlighted throughout the Chicago Blues Festival.
Check back on the Earwig web site in March for more details.
Aaron Moore is one of the last survivors of the classic boogie-woogie
piano style that permeated the 1950s Chicago Blues scene. Known
primarily as a backing musician, Moore provided accompaniment for
such greats as Little Walter, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Hound Dog
Taylor, Howlin' Wolf, Lonnie Brooks and Honeyboy Edwards in a career
spanning over forty years.
Born
and raised in Greenwood, Mississippi, Moore was encouraged in his
piano playing by his mother, who was a music teacher and church
piano player. Early on Moore was influenced by Curtis Jones, and
later by Memphis Slim. After moving to Chicago, he learned from
boogie-woogie paragon Roosevelt Sykes, and the two would often team
up in blues clubs around Chicago. Moore worked for the city of Chicago
for 36 years and played blues strictly on a freelance basis on weekends,
backing up local bluesmen in club shows. After retiring from the
Chicago Sanitation Department, Moore has been committed to music
full time, recording two critically acclaimed albums for Delmark
and touring throughout the US and abroad.
Big Shoulders Ball
Honeyboy
Edwards recently had the opportunity to play at a unique inauguration
event in Washington, DC on Monday, January 19th called the Big Shoulders
Ball. The event, put on by The Hideout venue of Chicago at the Black
Cat in DC, brought Chicago musicians including Honeyboy, Andrew
Bird and Ken Vandermark to the nation's capital to play in honor
of Obama's Inauguration. Check out the links below for more information
