CENTRAL
MISSISSIPPI BLUES SOCIETY RECEIVES MISSISSIPPI ARTS COMMISSION GRANT |
(Jackson,
MS) --- The Central Mississippi Blues Society of Jackson has been
awarded a $4,750 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC).
MAC is a state agency funded by the Mississippi Legislature, the National
Endowment for the Arts, and local foundations. This grant is a portion
of the $1.5 million in grants the Commission has awarded in 2009-2010
and will be used to promote the local culture of Blues Music as an
art form through live performances.
The grants are made possible by continued funding from the Mississippi
State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
“Organizations across the state who receive grants from the
Mississippi Arts Commission continue to prove that arts programs are
vital to the growth of their area. The grants awarded by the Commission
provide funding for the staging of festivals, theatre performances
and many other arts-related activities,” said Malcolm White,
Executive Director of MAC.
The Central Mississippi Blues Society, a 501c3 organization established
in 2005, sponsors the weekly blues show and jam Blue Monday, at Hal
and Mal’s in Jackson. It is through the Blue Monday events that
key goals of the CMBS are achieved, such as promoting the local culture
of blues music through live performances and showcasing local blues
artists as well as regional and international talent.
