The mission of the University of Missouri - St. Louis jazz program
is to promote and enrich the performing arts in the St. Louis region.
In recognition of the UMSL efforts, Francis G. Slay, Mayor of the
City of St. Louis, proclaims April 16-19, "2008 Greater St.
Louis Jazz Festival Days" in the city of St. Louis. This year
marks the fifth anniversary of the largest jazz educational festival
in the region. The event takes place over four days and is presented
by two leading jazz institutions, University of Missouri - St. Louis
and Jazz St. Louis.
Over 750 students and 35 educators will learn from jazz icons and
educators like Jim Widner (bass), Buddy DeFranco (clarinet), Wayne
Bergeron (trumpet), Paul McKee (trombone), Shelly Berg (piano),
Tom Scott (saxophone), Gregg Field (drums), and Chuck Berghofer
(bass).
