Costello and his band were just in town at BB's in May and again
at the Bottleneck Blues Bar in St. Charles during the second week
of June. At the age of 25, singer/songwriter Sean Costello has
accomplished a lot in his brief but still expanding blues career.
By the age 11, he had mastered some of the blues sounds of Jimi
Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. His first major influence was the great
Howlin' Wolf; other influences include Jody Williams, James Brown,
and Buddy Guy. From then on, it has just been one great explosion
of blues guitar and a tremendous voice to boot. In 1994, Sean
won the Blues Talent Contest that was sponsored by the Memphis
Beale Street Blues Society (he was 15 then!!).
In 1996, he recorded his first release "Call the Cops",
then in 1997 he met up again with Susan Tedeschi (who was also
in the 1996 talent contest) and went on to perform the scorching
guitar work on her "Let It Burn" album. In 2000, Costello
put out another album entitled "Cuttin' In" and continued
in 2001 with his "Moanin' for Molasses" assemblage.
Due to the latter album's success Sean was nominated for a WC
Handy Blues Award in 2002. The band, which includes Melvin Zachary
on bass, Matt Wauchope on piano, and Terrance Prather on drums
tour regularly around the country as well as some international
locations for blues festivals. You can learn more about this exciting
young guitar talent at www.seancostello.com.
