Hot
Flash! the Saffire documentary film premieres Saturday, January 19,
at the Central Rappahannock Library (1201 Caroline St, Fredericksburg,
Virginia, 22401). Showings are 7-8 p.m. and 9-10 p.m. You must obtain
your free ticket for the show at the library main desk during regular
library hours prior to showtime because of limited seating. Tickets
become available on January 2. Hot Flash! tells the story of Saffire
- The Uppity Blues Women, three middle-aged women who, after years
of moonlighting as Blues musicians, left their day jobs and took their
act on the road.
Saffire's story is told through new interviews
with the band, as well as their families, Bruce Iglauer of Alligator
Records, music critics and historians. Also included are old photos,
press clippings, and TV appearances pulled from the band's personal
collection. The film features new performances of the band singing
some of their most requested songs, played live at the historic
Ram's Head and Wolf Trap theaters.
This documentary features Saffire's irresistibly
enthusiastic performance style and tells their real life story with
its "you're never too old to pursue your passions" message.
It also shows a picture of success that is too seldom seen...three
women making a living doing what they love.
A brief Q&A with the band and film director,
Sarah Knight, will follow each 40-minute showing. Bill Wax, Blues
DJ of XM radio, will be the facilitator.
