Tragedy
Strikes Neal Family Again |
Jackie Neal murdered, ex-boyfriend charged
Jackie Neal, younger sister of Kenny Neal, and daughter of the
late Raful Neal was fatally shot by a former boyfriend on March
9 in Baton Rouge, where she was a blues singer.
She released three CDs between 1995 and 2002 that blended blues,
funk, and pop. Neals brother and band leader, Larry Neal,
said his sister, who was one of ten siblings in a very musically
talented family, was planning a European tour.
She was deep into her music. Her goal was to be successful
in what she did, he said. Shes just a loving
person. She was the third member of the Neal family to die
in the past year. Raful Neal died in September and his son, Ronnie
Neal, died in April 2004. Police told the Associated Press that
Neals former boyfriend opened fire in a crowded beauty salon
before turning the gun on himself.
Another woman in the salon was critically wounded as she ran from
the shooting.
Baton Rouge Police Major Pat Tauzin says Neal, who was in her
late 30s, died at the scene, and both Myers and White were rushed
to the hospital with critical injuries. The gunman faces counts
of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. |
