From
Wayne Andrews- Director of the King Biscuit Festival
"It is amazing to see people travel from around the
world to come to our small town of Helena. The size of the crowd,
and the diversity of locations from which they have travelled,
explans the power of blues music better than any demographic fact.
I think the major success of the festival is that blues is drawing
a new audience. You could look in the crowd and see teenagers
having a great time. I think the "jam band" trend (such
as Phish) is introducng a younger audience to the roots of music,
and at the root of music is the blues.
I was speaking with Nashid Madyun, acquisitions manager for STAX,
and his qoute about the festial was" the festial is about
the crowd, they are there for the music, there are no fences,
or police because the event is about the music"
