The
Broke & Hungry Crew just returned from a juke-drenched weekend
in Bentonia, Mississippi where we helped Jimmy “Duck”
Holmes celebrate the release of his newest CD, Done Got Tired of
Tryin’.

To
take home a little slice of Bentonia, be sure to wander over to
the Broke
& Hungry Records store and order your copy of Done Got Tired
of Tryin’. All of the album’s 10 tracks were recorded
at Jimmy’s rural juke joint, the Blue Front Café. Half
of the album’s tracks feature Jimmy in solo/acoustic mode;
another four feature him plugged in and with support from the incomparable
Lightnin’ Malcolm on drums. Old pal and Bentonia harp legend
Bud Spires shows up on “Catfish Blues” to lend some
hypnotically droning accompaniment.
The
first 50 folks who order the CD through the label’s Web site
will receive a complimentary mp3 of an unreleased Jimmy “Duck”
Holmes track. Sharp-eared listeners will quickly understand why
the song (“Take a Little Trip With Me”) was not included
on the album. Hint: Train tracks run about 50 feet in front of the
juke.
For those ordering from overseas, please order with
confidence. No additional shipping charges apply.
As always, thanks for your support!
Cheers,
Jeff Konkel
