IRS
freezes accounts of Sonny Boy Blues Society |
From WMC TV, Memphis
HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark.
Plans are continuing for the 2007 Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival
sponsored by the Sonny Boy Blues Society, despite an I-R-S freeze
on the society's assets. That's according to blues society president
Rayne Gordon.
Gordon said the festival, formerly the King Biscuit Blues Festival,
lost money last year, between 25-thousand and 30-thousand dollars.
He said the group suffered the losses because it lost funding sources
right before the festival.
According to Gordon, the society's assets were frozen for taxes that
were not filed properly, and the group is working to pay the money
it owes even as it plans for this year's festival.
The festival has seen almost 22 years of continued packed crowds despite
the name change from The King Biscuit Blues Festival.

note - The Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival is a legendary
festival, set in a historically significant part of the South....very
deep Blues. STLBlues encourages every fan of the ABHF (formerly 'Da
Biscuit, but that's another story) to attend this year and help keep
this event alive!
