NEW
MUSIC VENUE COMING SOON TO THE GROVE |
ST.
LOUIS—Construction is underway on the newest addition
to the thriving Forest Park Southeast (“the Grove”) entertainment
district. The Gramophone, located at 4243 Manchester Ave., is scheduled
to open to the public in early March 2008.
The Gramophone will feature live music of rotating genres—including
jazz, blues, funk, bluegrass and rock—several nights per week,
along with sets by local and national DJs. A full bar will serve draught
beers, wines by the bottle and the glass, classic cocktails and signature
drinks, and the space will be also available for private events. The
Gramophone is one of several projects underway in the neighborhood
from developer Restoration St. Louis. It will feature a state-of-the-art
sound system and will accommodate up to 225 patrons.
“Together with Restoration St. Louis, we are designing a space
that will appeal to music lovers from all backgrounds, says Roo Yawitz,
the Gramophone’s owner. “Our space will accommodate stage-side
seating for a laid-back jazz show, but can be transformed for a high-energy,
standing-room-only rock concert. We hope that the Gramophone will
be a
fun and comfortable place for people to enjoy music they love and
to discover genres of music that are new to them.”
Venue ownership also seeks to provide education about St. Louis’s
rich musical history. “In addition to hosting live music acts,
we plan to host regular community education events to contribute to
the dialogue about the significance of music to St. Louis history,”
says Kim Yawitz, Andrew’s wife and business partner. “Once
we are established, we hope to regularly bring in music historians,
along with veteran local acts who will not only entertain the crowd
with their music, but can also narrate their experiences in the St.
Louis music scene.”
