5! Checks Given to New Orleans Musicians during Mardi Gras |
During the
2006 New Orleans Mardi Gras Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine -
Robert Jr. Whitall and Shirley Mae Owens with the help of many, many
people (thank-you Detroit Blues Society, B.B.’s Lawnside BBQ,
Knuckleheads Saloon, The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, Georgina
Moore, Bill Wax - XM‘s Bluesville and all who contributed to
Gimme 5!) presented checks to New Orleans musicians affected by Hurricane
Katrina. Many are still displaced and have been unable to work for
several months. Everyone has his or her own Katrina story to be featured
in Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine – April/May, ’06.

Gimme 5! fundraising efforts has just begun and more work needs to
be done. Gimme 5! will continue at the 2006 New Orleans Jazz &
Heritage Festival (4/28 – 5/7) as well as through the summer
relieving the pressure in a small way but to a very appreciative group
