Clark
Terry
is one person from St. Louis that many music lovers are continually
in awe of! C.T. (as he is affectionately referred to), remains humorous,
humble and down-to-earth in spite of all his international achievements.
Here's
what others had to say about the legendary Clark Terry:
"I
had never heard a trumpet player in my life like Clark. I still
haven't." - Quincy Jones
". none of the prime authorities on
the subject say, 'Clark Terry
did this sixteen years ago.'" - Duke Ellington
"He's (Clark Terry).one of the best
in the world at playing it, if
not the best." - Miles Davis
"My
favorite trumpet player (Clark Terry)." - Louie
Armstrong
"Clark Terry is one of contemporary
music's great innovators, and
justly celebrated for his great technical virtuosity, swinging lyricism,
and impeccable good taste." - Chuck Berg
Known for his dialogue solos, and for his
incoherent scat singing, "Mumbles"
(a parody of blues singers that he originated), Terry is also an
enthusiastic educator.
He has performed for seven U.S. Presidents,
in more than fifty jazz festivals, and on all seven continents.
This GRAMMY R Award winner has received ~ 250 awards, has a star
on the Walk of Fame, and has a life-sized wax figure in St. Louis'
Black World History Museum. In 2005 he was voted Trumpeter of the
Year by the Jazz Journalists Association.
Now
is 'THE' prime time to experience our area icon Clark, because he
returns to his hometown for one performance at the Greater St. Louis
Jazz Festival on Saturday, April 22. For more information, visit:
