Blues
on the Mississippi kicks off |
Beautiful weather greeted the crowd that descended on the J. B
Park amphitheater last Friday night. As the lawn filled up, Billy
Peek was introduced by promoter Marty Koch, who is responsible
for bringing this event to the level it is. Just take a look at
the talent booked in this year, and you'll agree that this has
become one of St. Louis' premiere music events. It's a perfect
venue for families to bring their kids & a cooler, spread
a blanket and set up some lawn chairs.
Billy then took to the stage, showcasing the guitar sounds that
have made him a local legend over the years. A mix of Blues, Rock
& Roll, and some Chuck Berry covers made up the energetic
1st set. It's been overheard from Chuck Berry that "Billy
Peek plays Chuck Berry better than Chuck Berry does".
Most would agree that few in St. Louis capture
Chuck's style better, even down to the duckwalk. But
don't take my word for it, catch Billy yourself - he's an longtime
institution at the Grizzly Bear, where he's traded weekends there
for years with the Soulard Blues Band!

Words of caution: citronella candles & insect repellent, in
case the mosquitos are hungry!
