Blind
Pig Records has announced an August 16th release date for new
CDs from blues/rock pioneer Elvin Bishop, up-and-coming singer
and songwriter Renee Austin, and a live CD and DVD from Magic
Slim and the Teardrops.
Gettin'
My Groove Back is the first studio album in seven years from
Elvin Bishop, the renowned blues-rock guitarist who was a founding
member of the legendary Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and a mainstay
on the 60's San Francisco Fillmore scene with the likes of Jimi
Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King. With Michael Bloomfield,
he pioneered the dual guitar attack later popularized by Dickie
Betts and Greg Allman in what's become known as Southern Rock.
Gettin' My Groove Back features the trademarks that have made
Elvin one of the most beloved figures on the blues-rock scene
- raucous, high-energy blues, roadhouse romps, searing guitar
licks, tasty slide guitar, infectious sense of humor - plus
outrage, optimism, and belief in the redemptive power of music.
The album features Bishop's top-flight band as well as special
guests Henry Butler, Roy Rogers, and Norton Buffalo.
Renee
Austin's Right About Love is the much anticipated follow-up
to her national debut recording Sweet Talk, nominated for a
W.C. Handy Award as "Best New Artist Debut." The talented
vocalist and songwriter is noted for her formidable vocal prowess,
emotional commitment to every note and evocative spins on time-honored
American roots music. Right About Love continues Austin's musical
journey into what she calls "Roadhouse Soul," mixing
blues, roadhouse rock, gospel and country styles. Whatever genre
of music she performs, Renee Austin invests each style with
a unique flavor and passion that few artists can match.
Anything Can Happen is the new live recording from Magic Slim
and the Teardrops, renowned as one of the world's top authentic
Chicago blues bands. They won the W.C. Handy Award for "Blues
Band of the Year," and Living Blues magazine has called
them "a national treasure." Anything Can Happen, which
will be available on DVD as well as CD, faithfully captures
the experience of seeing and hearing "the last real Chicago
blues band," as Magic Slim's slashing guitar lines and
greasy, gutbucket vocals take blues fans on a back-alley excursion
into true, visceral blues. The DVD features a 60 minute concert,
5.1 Surround Sound, plus a Magic Slim interview.
