THE
5th ANNUAL BABY BLUES SHOWCASE
THANKSGIVING WEEKEND
The
5th Annual Baby Blues Showcase, featuring the region’s young
blues musicians, will take place at B.B.’s
Jazz, Blues & Soups on Sunday, November 26, 2006 from 6
p.m. to 11 p.m. This premiere event combines St. Louis’ most
established “Blues & Jazz” music venue, a dedicated
community of music lovers and some of the countries youngest, most
talented, up-and-coming blues musicians.
This
year’s Showcase will feature a variety of styles of blues
including Acoustic, Gospel, Delta and Electric Urban blues. The
bands performing this year from include; Sean Costello, Marquise
Knox, The University City Jazz Big Band, The Bottoms Up Blues Gang
& Friends, and Brian Curran & Folk’n’Bluesgrass.
Like so many St. Louis blues events, there will be several special
guests and plenty of musical surprises.
The Baby Blues Showcase was initially created to
feature the small group of young St. Louisians playing blues &
jazz, however in the last few years the Showcase has grown to include
regional bands. This years National Act is guitarist, and Atlanta
native, Sean Costello. The Baby Blues Showcase has not only become
a place for young blues musicians to share their music, but a calling
card to the world that St. Louis is home to the blues - young and
old.
Each year The Baby Blues Showcase raises money for
the Blues Society’s Mission Fund, which helps local blues
musicians in need off support. The Mission Fund is the only St.
Louis foundation helping elderly blues musicians. Previous prizes
include a guitar signed by Henry Townsend and Bennie Smith, a set
of harmonicas signed by local harmonica legends, CD’s and
Blues Society “Stuff.”
