Generation of the Blues |
It's always a good thing to foster and development the 'next wave'
of musical talent to carry on, and the Blues are no exception. St.
Louis has such a rich talent pool, and 2 youngsters have risen to
the top, bringing their own style to the blues!
Marquise
'Big Daddy' Knox is a shining example of the next generation of
bluesman. Henry
Townsend took a liking to the raw talent and energy of this youth,
and became a mentor to Marquise, sharing his knowledge of the music
industry, and how to protect himself from the all too common 'mercenaries'
lurking within that industry. Since that association, Marquise has
performed on main stages with legends like Honeyboy Edwards and Louisiana
Red! His debut CD 'Rise On Up' was just released, and is getting rave
reviews!
12
year old Darrein
Safron is the youngest talent to explode on the scene. Darrein
is the son of Mike Safron, founder and drummer of the famed 80's Rock
band 'Pavlov's
Dog', and has been raised to be a musician since he could walk!
Currently in the studio working on his debut CD, the buzz is going
around town.
Bob Kuban,
a legendary St. Louis musician and bandleader best known for his 1966
#12 pop hit The Cheater, is involved in this project. It's been over
40 years since Bob has re-recorded The Cheater. When asked 'why have
you waited so long', Bob replied "I've been waiting for the right
voice, and I've finally found it". The debut CD of Darrein Safron
will feature 'The Cheater' with Bob Kuban on drums, and 12 other smokin
Blues and R&B tracks backed by the Soul Sensations!
