What's
new with the St. Louis Blues Museum Foundation |
Just
an update on the the recent announcement of Pinnacle Entertainment
as the city's choice for the Laclede's Landing casino is welcome
news to the foundation. After meeting with Pinnacle's development
team, the Laclede's Landing Merchants Association sent a copy
of the StLBMF's business plan to CEO Daniel Lee -- who happens
to be a huge music fan -- and he absolutely loved the idea. And
why wouldn't he -- what a great way for casino money to create
an educational and entertaining institution for the St. Louis
region!
At the January 14th meeting, we voted to cancel the Trivia Night
scheduled for February 7th. Due to the limited space/table sizes
available at Trainwreck on The Landing, our profits would be minimal
compared to the amount of work that would go into producing such
an event. Instead, we opted to put all of our time and energy
into the blues concert/jam on Friday, February 27th. Looks like
Rondo's Blues Deluxe
will be our "house band" for the evening, which will
also feature a (TBA) host of local blues musicians and "celebrities."
We will have tremendous radio support for this event, including
promotions during a live Friday happy hour broadcast on 101.1
The River. Vic Porcelli does a live show from Trainwreck's Westport
location each Friday, and George Hansford (owner of Trainwreck)
has graciously offered to let us promote the event via The River
broadcast on Friday, February 20th. StLBMF will be on hand during
the broadcast to sell tickets to the concert/jam on 2/27 ($12.50
in advance, $15 at the door), and provide info about our group
and our mission to interested parties on hand.
We've enlisted the aid of Joe Klitzing of Klitzing Welsch Associates,
a local architectural firm, to come up with some basic sketches/drawings
of our museum. Joe is very excited about the project and has a
lot of great ideas for making a new structure appropriately reflect
the rich history of the blues. We provided him with a couple of
possible locations on the riverfront, and he hopes to have some
rough sketches within a week or so. But - we can't expect someone
of Joe's caliber to work for free, so make plans to attend the
concert/jam and bring a bunch of friends!
That's all the news that's fit to type at the moment - we hope
to have more information about a possible StLBMF appearance/involvement
at the Soulard Mardi Gras celebration and Fat Tuesday parade in
the near future.
